In the anticipation of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming “Barbie” movie starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, many of us are already feeling pretty in pink.

Barbiecore, the latest trend all over TikTok, is pushing people to embrace hyper-femininity and celebrate colour this summer. From bright pink hair to hot pink cars, people are living out their childhood dreams in this Barbie world.

The bold colour is nothing new, it is reminiscent of the early 2000s with cult classics like Legally Blonde and Mean Girls, but with the persistent Y2K and maximalism agenda, it feels just right that it came back.

Hot pink, the long-time embodiment of girliness is a loud statement that many are making to challenge stereotypes of femininity. By reclaiming the colour and rejecting its negative connotations, the fashion trend has gone as far as to evolve into a powerful statement.

In early July, we have even seen celebrities including Florence Pugh, who had previously worked with Gerwig in “Little Women”, Anne Hathaway, Hwasa, Ariana DeBose and more attending the Valentino haute couture 2022 show in Pierpaolo Piccoli’s “PP Pink”.

Whether you are fully indulging in Barbiecore or not, celebrate femininity this summer by incorporating bright pieces into your wardrobe.
