VFW WINTER STYLE – RUNWAY INSPIRATION

Winter is here Vancouver! It’s official!

As we search for our warm winter coats and sweaters, it can be difficult to know how to pull off all these layers. Vancouver Fashion Week and Global Fashion Collective’s Paris show is a great place to gather inspiration and see what is trending.

A variety of designers from the previous season featured styles that you could take to the Vancouver streets or mountains this winter.

Mild Months Look Book:

As we are still in mild weather for Fall/Winter, it’s good to start off with lighter coats and looser styles. Designers “Avnaye”, “Mondame”, and “Denzil Mapfumo”, showed off great wardrobe staples for men and women.

“Avnaye” (above) plays with patterns in their coats and pants mixed with neutrals. This is the perfect way to be creative with layers and brighten up the grey overcast skies.

“Mondame” (above) layers for a strong business to casual look with a white dress shirt and dress pants, layering a peacoat on top.

Bomber jackets are a huge trend right now and “Denzil Mapfumo” (above) styles a light blue one beautifully.

Another popular pattern is animal print mixed with neutrals. “Denzil Mapfumo” has done this with the model holding a purse with this trendy texture. Adding tights and simple boots can take this look from fall to winter very easily. The mixing of bright coloured staple pieces with a neutral again is a great way to balance your outfits this winter.

As It Gets Colder:

Although the challenge comes for styling comes when it gets below zero. It can be impossible to mix the stylish with the practical. So, I turned to the help of designers “Deodar” and “MBK Fashion Design”. They do an amazing job of blending heavy coats with runway looks underneath for both men and women’s fashion. These are also perfect looks for a weekend trip to Whistler.

“Deodar” (above) shows how to play with winter tones in your style. Open heavy jackets over neutral sweaters combine with fitted pants. They accessorize with large sunglasses and simple black boots.

“MBK Fashion Design” plays with clear materials over a monochrome outfits. They also mix shorter layers overtop longer layers for visual interest. This is a great way to show off your look that you don’t want to hide while keeping warm.

Winter can be the toughest season to style for, so looking into the runway, can help you look forward to a winter wardrobe!

Happy Layering!
