NEW YORK, NY — The second presentation of Global Fashion Collective put the spotlight on fine hand craftsmanship, luxurious fabrics and a shake-up of the traditional runway show.

HAMON

First to hit the runway was Japanese brand HAMON. Inspired by the unity of one piece of fabric, designer Kumiko Iwano’s collection, ‘Square’ featured a series of natural, hand-dyed linen and cotton womenswear. A feeling of freedom swept through the sophisticated designs as the garments possess the ability to be changed to suit individuality and situation. A colour palette including spectacular red, fuschia, turquoise, pink, and yellow elegantly adorned the models. The shade spectrum added to the sense of expression and freedom to manipulate one’s clothes, design and fashion. The final look featured an elegant neutral dress with kimono-style sleeves and a tie-around waist.

HAUS ZUK

Designer Peter Zuk for Vancouver based brand Haus Zuk was inspired by his desire to shake-up the gender-conforming and binary style of the runway. His Graduate collection ‘OVERDOSE’ successfully draws on the LGBT community and queer nightlife and contrasted it with an overarching theme. An energetic runway held the stage for loud and fun colour palette, from pastel blue wigs to neon pink teddy bear heads; Peter Zuk reached back to his past in the cosplay community and love of video game culture, to create fantasy-inspired garments. The show was rounded off with the designer being carried down the runway on the shoulder of a model in a teddy bear hat with pink and blue ribbons.

MARIA PIA CORNEJO

Urban and natural fabric set the tone for the first set of looks by designer Maria Pia Cornejo. ‘ALMA’ meaning soul in Spanish brought the concept of the collection by the Chilean based designer. Through unconventional materials and architectural forms, Maria’s commitment to futurism and innovation can be seen in dynamic pairings of colour and shape. Gold metallic fabrics glistened against easy to wear garments amongst hues of monochrome, electric blue and vermilion red in a truly soulful offering by Maria for her SS20 collection.

AC·HOUSE

To close the show Chinese brand AC·HOUSE’s collection ‘Rock Dreamer’ took inspiration from Rock & Roll and could be seen in the dark and edgy use of colour with pops of lace and embroidery contrasted against luxurious Italian silk. Independent designer Lily Liu drew influence from the famous mythical Chinese bird, ‘Luan Phoenix’, for this latest collection. Embroidered on the back of a black velvet cape in beautiful gold stitching, this final look closed off the show in a majestic fashion.
